Shock and awe was the term used during operation Iraqi freedom to describe the amazing hell we unleashed on the Iraqi army. I believe it was the largest missle attack in history. We bombarded them with so much fire power that the only way this destruction could be described was awe.
At Jesus Culture, a youth conference in Redding, I think I saw in the spiritual, shock and awe. The presence of Jesus Christ showed up so heavily that we experienced signs, wonders, miracles and revelations. It is as if there was an open heaven over where we were worshipping. I saw kids in our youth group prophecy, meet Jesus face to face and worship as if there life depended on it. I believe the only way this generation will come to know Jesus will be through radical encounters with God. This generation doesn't want to see eloquent speakers and fancy buildings. They want what is in the Bible, the whole enchilada. Miracles, signs, wonders, healing happens when Jesus is in the building. We don't see them as often because I believe we don't invite the King of Kings into our services to often.
Our kids walked the streets of Redding blessing people with prayer, money, words of encouragement and prophecy. I felt like I was living in the Bible. It was an "out of body" experience. I feel like I have been ripped off for so many years, believing that my Christianity should be compartmentalized into nifty worship, goose bumps, encouraging messages and after church lunches.
I want it all. I want to live in an Acts church. Be amongst a community of "believing" believers who are changing the community through passionate love for Jesus and people. God was meant to be experienced not talked about as if He isn't in the room. Lord, restore awe for your presence. In it we find life.
